What is Holistic Healing?
Holistic healing is healing where we will take into account all aspects of healing that can heal us, make us “Whole” again.
Holistic comes from Holism. Holism parts from the idea that parts of a whole are in intimate interconnection in such a way that they cannot exist independently of the whole, and cannot be understood without reference to the whole. So the whole is not just a sum of it’s parts but greater.
Within medicine and health-care it means that the whole person must be treated, taking into account many factors, like mental and social factors for example. Within holistic healing we will look further than just looking into the symptoms of the disease.
One of the most important insights within holistic healing is that we cannot separate physical health from mental and spiritual health.
Traditional health separates things clearly, for instance, we might see a psychologist for mental health, a doctor for our physical health and a healer for our spiritual health. Happily enough many insights also within traditional western medicines lead to similar conclusions. But I still think that, speaking in general for most people and for medicine as a whole, that the insights of holistic healing are most of the time absent and not taken into account sufficiently, as are holistic insights and ideas in other disciplines and in society.
On this website I will present more insights about this. I consider that an holistic approach is more effective because change occurs on all levels and as a result, positive changes are more likely to last long-term and improve a person’s overall quality of life. Also, when one takes into account many more factors than just the physical and purely medical, it can lead to more understanding of health problems and at the same time offer solutions that traditional medicine does not offer.
